Hawaii ASLA Executive Committee 2011-2012

 

Brian Wolf – President
Brian Wolf is a project designer with Belt Collins. Brian's areas of expertise include planting and site design. His professional experience runs the gamut from institutional / mixed use commercial to luxury resort destinations. As a LEED Accredited Professional, he has served a leading role in designing sustainable and context-sensitive projects anticipating LEED Certification. Brian is well versed in the latest Adobe software and 3-D design application tools and conveys that knowledge into his presentations. Brian graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture.  Before making his way to Hawaii, Brian worked as an urban planner in Washington D.C. and held an internship with renowned landscape architect Pamela Burton in Los Angeles, CA. Brian completed his first Honolulu Marathon on December 12, 2010.

 

Kyle Sasaki – President-Elect
Kyle moved back home to Hawaii in 2008 and works at Ki Concepts. He graduated with a BLA degree from the University of Washington and worked in Seattle at EDAW (now AECOM) and Nakano Associates. He served on the board and as Treasurer for the Seattle Japanese Garden for 7 years. Kyle is a licensed Landscape Architect in the state of Washington, Hawaii, and a LEED AP.

 

Chris Dacus – Trustee
Chris Dacus has been practicing landscape architecture since 1987 and a resident of Hawaii since 1993. He is the current state landscape architect for the State Department of Transportation Highways Division and is responsible for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of 2,500 miles of state roadsides. He has served on the Hawaii ASLA board since 2004.

 

Wayne Baldwin – Treasurer
Wayne moved to Hawai’i from Rockville, MD in 2010 after receiving a BLA landscape architecture degree from University of Maryland College Park. Before moving to Hawai’i, he was a freelance designer for residences in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. He now works as a designer with Ki Concepts. Some of his interests include hiking, triathlon sports, food, art, and anything else that is active and outside.

 

Scott Murakami – Secretary
Prior to becoming a licensed Landscape Architect, Scott Murakami worked for over four years in Seattle gaining what he likes to call, "valuable mainland" experience". He worked on various public and private projects ranging from high-end residential homes to large commercial developments. Now back in Hawaii, Scott currently has been working at PBR Hawaii for over the past 6 years. He has found a rejuvenated respect for sustaining the tropical landscape that is so unique to these islands. He believes that people of all ages need to get out of the house (and office) and enjoy the outdoors, while at the same time, respecting and preserving the surrounding environment. He is a licensed Landscape Architect in the State of Hawaii, and a LEED AP.

 

Janine Mori – Member at Large
Janine graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is a licensed Landscape Architect in Hawaii and Nevada, and a LEED AP. She previously served the ASLA Hawaii Chapter as secretary from 2001-2003. Janine currently works for Walters, Kimura, Motoda, Inc.

 

David Sereda – Member at Large (Maui)
David Sereda is a senior associate with Chris Hart & Partners, Maui. David's background includes a degree in Economics and a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia. He moved to Hawaii in 2001 and has since worked on a wide range of master planning & landscape architecture projects. David's interest in landscape architecture stems from growing up overseas and experiencing a diversity of landscape typologies, most notably the design of public spaces. David was the lead designer and project manager of the newly opened 44-acre South Maui Community Park in Kihei.

 

Craig Duff – Member at Large (Kauai)
Craig graduated from Ball State University in 2002 and quickly moved to Kauai to begin his career in Landscape Architecture at Kauai Nursery & Landscaping. He became licensed in Hawaii in 2007, and shortly thereafter, he spent 2 years teaching mathematics as a volunteer overseas in Guyana and Namibia. Craig has happily returned to the Garden Island and resumed his design and project administration duties at Kauai Nursery & Landscaping.

 

Brian Stuhr – Member at Large (Big Island)
Brian is a landscape designer at Ki Concepts in their office on the Big Island. He received a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture and Urban Design from the University of Colorado Denver.

 

Pamela Caceres – Member at Large (Student Liaison)
Originally from California, Pamela relocated to Hawaii upon receiving her BLA at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Gaining great experience working for Greg Boyer Hawaiian Landscapes, Pam is building the foundation of her career in Hawaii. With a passion for the profession and its evolution, Pam's interests lie in the sustainability movement with emphasis on sustainable development, design, building techniques and green infrastructure. As part of the Hawaii Chapter Executive Committee, she brings in new perspectives and ideas as a Member at Large and a Liaison to Students. Pam looks forward to the continuing impact Landscape Architects are making by playing an active role in the progress of the profession as well as furthering public awareness.

 

Lorenda Lo – Past President
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Lorenda Lo is a Chinese native speaker who loves art and travel. Lorenda received her Fine Art degree from Fu Jen Catholic University in Taiwan and a Master degree of Landscape Architecture from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). She worked as an intern at Hawaii Design Associates (now KI Concepts LLC) in a summer during her graduate study. The great summer experience brought her back to Hawaii for a long-term stay after graduation. Lorenda is currently a landscape designer and planner at AECOM Honolulu office. Her design experience includes the landscape architecture practice in Hawaii and in her home-country of Taiwan practicing historic preservation / regeneration and recreational design. As a certified LEED AP, Lorenda also focuses on sustainable design and cultural landscape to help repurpose several communities and their intrinsic values of both environmental and cultural resources. Lorenda is passionate for promoting the Landscape Architecture professionals in Hawaii; advocating sustainable landscape awareness to the communities; developing educational program at UH and associated institutes; and establishing a uniquely positive connectivity between the HASLA and the Hawaii community. Lorenda has been a member of ASLA Hawaii Chapter since 2005, served as a treasurer from 2008-2009.
