Pau Hana: Side Street Inn

As a new member of Hawaii ASLA I was quite fortunate to attend August’s Pau Hana at the Side Street Inn. I recently moved from Madison, WI, where I have been working as a landscape designer for the last couple of years, focusing mainly on campus and waterfront design projects. I was happy to discover that the event was a collaborative effort between ASLA, LICH, APA and AIA and decided that it would be a great way to meet some local professionals. I found the group to be extremely welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely interested in creating meaningful relationships across professions. In many places joint events like this are rare, but are necessary for seeding positive change in the way we practice as a whole. In addition, a bit of delicious food never hurts in creating collaboration across professions. Overall, I couldn’t have hoped for a better introduction and I am very excited to get to know the design community here in Honolulu.
