ASLA VOLUNTEERED AT THE 2025 ANNUAL HALAWA XERISCAPE GARDEN'S UNTHIRSTY PLANT SALE - AUGUST 2, 2025 By Dana Anne Yee, FASLA Photo Credit and Photos Provided By: Dana Anne Yee, FASLA

To be invited to the Board of Water Supply’s Annual Unthirsty Plant Sale was an honor and a pleasure. ASLA Hawai`i Chapter was well represented by President, Matt Higa, Board Member, Alex Tamai, and Trustee, Dana Anne Yee, to share the wonderful world of Landscape Architecture to the visitors of the energetic BWS Unthirsty Plant Sale. BWS Community Relations Specialist II, Sheri Mikami organized and provided ASLA with the last volunteer table. Our table was filled with ASLA brochures, the UH Master’s Program Brochures, books, and a very popular bowl filled with candy. The banners were well received and danced in the wind..

The Board of Water Supply came through in spades with, "Meandering through a 3-acre garden, lush oasis nestled in Halawa Valley's Central Park and browsing through tables and tables of unique plants that can thrive with little water is a fun, educational experience for the entire family."

We all exclaimed afterwards of what a great event it was and how much we enjoyed sharing our American Society of Landscape Architecture profession with everyone of all ages. Our favorite were our younger visitors and asking the question, "Do you want to be a landscape architect when you get older?" And the answer was a resounding Yes! Followed by a lot of candy.''
