2017 Diversity SuperSummit
June 9 – 11 marked ASLA’s inaugural Diversity SuperSummit at the ASLA Center for Landscape Architecture in Washington D.C. Emerging professionals from previous summits welcomed a new cohort and collaboratively developed action plans focused on how to increase representation from communities of color amongst landscape architecture practitioners and professionals, as they are least represented demographically. DEREGULARITIES
A message to membership from your Hawaii ASLA Executive Committee: The article by Bradford McKee provides a good overview of the growing deregulatory climate across the USA and the forces behind it that should be of concern to all landscape architects. While currently there are no specific threats to licensure of landscape architects in the state of Hawaii it is important for our small LA community here to remain vigilant and proactive. Your ExCom will be discussing this is

Hawaii ASLA uses our Annual Meeting as a way to network with colleagues, talk story, and recap the year's events and activities. We had a great turn our for our 2016 Annual Meeting at the Koolau Ballrooms and Conference Center. The event included sponsor presentations and displays by Pacific Pipe, Victor Stanley, Highwire, and Focus Industries. Mahalo to our 2016 Annual Meeting sponsors for making this event possible! GSI Summit
I have just begun my 3 year doctorate of architecture at the University of Hawaii and the timer has just begun for me to decide on my thesis topic. And I don’t know what to do. My mom always tells me that to take charge of my life, my career path, and ultimately my success, I need to 1, switch over to medicine and 2, “go out there and take it for yourself”. And its true, because only you can decide what success is for yourself. At the young, under-ripe age of 18, I decided to

Pau Hana: Side Street Inn
As a new member of Hawaii ASLA I was quite fortunate to attend August’s Pau Hana at the Side Street Inn. I recently moved from Madison, WI, where I have been working as a landscape designer for the last couple of years, focusing mainly on campus and waterfront design projects. I was happy to discover that the event was a collaborative effort between ASLA, LICH, APA and AIA and decided that it would be a great way to meet some local professionals. I found the group to be extre

Shirokiya Pau Hana: ASLA, LICH, APA & AIA
On July 20, 2016, I was welcomed into a group that was a pleasure to be with. As an architectural designer, it’s not often that I interact with landscape professionals outside of the office and it was a real treat to hear their perspective and meet folks I would not usually have to chance to meet. As a board member for AIA Honolulu, it is always great to collaborate with allied groups to understand how our organizations can support each other. And as a former landscape design
